Watching MX-5 Racing

Postby stuartb » Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:43 am

Someone at the meet mentioned going to see the MX-5 racing.

For those that don't know, there are two distinct race series running: MaX5 and Ma5da.

Depending on who you ask, MaX5 is smaller, friendlier and tends to get plugged on the Nutz forum a lot, as many of the competitors are regular posters. They held a pre-season warm-up day last month at Donnington, which I went to. There's a thread about the series here.

Ma5da has been on TV a few times and is much larger. There's been a lot of plugging on the OC Forum, especially as free tickets have been given out in the past. There's a thread here.

Personally, where possible, I'd rather support MaX5 as I've met more of the people involved. However, I've blagged hot-laps off the winners of both series and it's fantastic to see how much they can push a race-prepped/track-prepped '5 around a circuit.

Here are the current meet dates from their websites:

I would be interested in this. Got myself a nice new camera over crimbo and really got into the whole photography lark so this sounds good to me. :thumb:

Last MaX5 race of the season is on Sunday at Mallory Park. I'll be going to watch. Anyone else up for this?

Might be up for a fun out, are you planning a convoy or anything along those lines?

Could do. The (draft) race guide is here, but times may (and do) change.

I'll check out timing, but let's say Tesco Car Park, Jn4 M42 8am Sunday?

Bathroom, or are you on gardening duty this weekend? :)

Right - as there's been no interest in a convoy, I'll head over on my own. If anyone does decide to come, I'll be milling around the paddock or spectating.
